Industrial action update 5th April 2019
Latest information on the ongoing industrial dispute.
Friday, 5 April, 2019
You may be aware that the teaching union, NASUWT, is in dispute with the States Employment Board about pay. We have, in connection with this dispute, received this week formal notice from NASUWT that it is calling on its teaching members to take action, short of a strike, which will impact on the school’s ability to provide cover when staff are absent.
The union’s action starts on 23 April and will continue thereafter until further notice. All schools are intending to remain open, but I do have to advise you that this action could disrupt the education of your child or children.
As always, I am committed to doing everything I possibly can to avoid the interruption of learning, but my main priority is for their safety at school. The health, safety and wellbeing of pupils is paramount.
At this stage, I do not know what the potential impact of the union’s action will be. I will issue to parents, a further update on 23 April.
As you would expect, I am working closely with the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills to minimise, as far as possible, any detrimental impact on education. Please also be assured that the States Employment Board is working hard with NASUWT to resolve the underlying dispute.
Please note that Tuesday 23rd April is a Staff training day and children at Bel Royal start on Wednesday 24th April.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Mrs S. Burton
