As we have already mentioned in the newsletter, we are in the process of setting up Seesaw as a way of supporting children in Reception, Year 1, 2 and Focus Group should we have to close a class bubble due to Covid.
Seesaw works on any device connected to the internet – but it works best on a mobile device that has a camera and microphone (iPad, tablet, phones etc.) as children are able to share their learning using a multimedia approach.
Please download the Seesaw Class app (free) on to a device that your child can use – if they are using a PC or laptop, they can just google Seesaw - they won’t need an app.
Once you have given permission (see below) you will receive a separate email with a 12-digit code as the subject – please keep this safe. This is your child’s Seesaw home learning code that they will need to login to Seesaw.
Please keep this code safe and private and ensure that your child does not share this with anyone else. Once we have permissions completed and children can log in, your child can post about their learning at home. Very soon we will begin to post activities for your child to explore explore the activities that have been set for them by their teacher. These small learning activities will be set so that children have the opportunity to explore and use the app so that they are familiar with it in the event of a bubble having to close. Please note that as children would be home learning at this time, we will not be launching the ‘Seesaw family’ app, as you will already be seeing the learning that is happening at home. Your child will need login as a student.
We will still continue to use our School Website and Facebook page to share ideas and learning activities. The big difference is that once your child has finished their learning tasks, they can share them with their teacher through Seesaw for feedback.
Please note, in the event of a bubble closing, due to the number of tasks that teachers will receive, feedback will be given over the course of the week, so your child may not receive it instantly.
Seesaw has been fully risk assessed in accordance with Jersey Data Protection Law and our Education Department’s stringent data protection requirements. We are satisfied that it meets the safest of standards and therefore we are happy for your child to upload photographs and video footage of themselves completing their learning within the platform – this is however, completely at your discretion as a parent, or carer. Please communicate your preferences about this with your child.
This platform is also new to our teachers too… so there may be a few hurdles to overcome at the beginning – please be patient with us… we will get there!
In order for your child to use Seesaw, the app needs your child’s name in order to be able to associate work like their photos, videos or voice recordings with their account. Seesaw only uses this information to provide the service and doesn’t advertise in Seesaw, create profiles of students, or share or sell your child’s personal information or journal content. You can read more about their strong privacy promises here: https://web.seesaw.me/privacy.
