World Book Day Thursday 5th March

This year, World Book Day will be celebrated on Thursday 5th March. At Bel Royal, we love celebrating the work of the World Book Day charity and its purpose: ‘To champion the fun of reading because it seriously improves children’s lives.’ This year, the celebration will be combined with the National Year of Reading campaign, which is designed to encourage us all to read for pleasure more.

Dress Up!

Our dress up theme this year is inspired by all the wonderful themes and genres books can offer. Therefore, through pupil voice, each class has voted for a theme that they will dress up as for the day. Please be assured that children can go as big or small with their dressing up!

Nursery and Reception: Nursery Rhymes

Year 1 and Year 2: Julia Donaldson

Year 3: Horrible Histories

Year 4: Roald Dahl

Year 5: Comic books

Year 6: Fairy Tales or Twisted Tales

The Cove: Celebration of individuality and laughter.

Class teachers will provide more information on the classes chosen theme on Seesaw.

On the day, the children will be involved in many activities that will inspire a love of reading for all. We look forward to sharing all this with you.

Book Tokens

Every pupil will receive a World Book Day £1 book token which they can use to buy one of this year’s books at participating stores or online. For more information, please see  Get Ready for World Book Day 2026 - World Book Day.

If you have any queries, please see class teachers.

Many thanks

Miss Benn, English Lead

Helping your child stay safe online isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about keeping the conversation going.

Today we are sharing tips and resources from the NSPCC Jersey and Government of Jersey's Be the First Filter campaign. The campaign aims to reduce the creation and sharing of ‘self-generated’ indecent images among children and young people. It provides information, advice, and support for adults who play a key role in helping 9 to 11 year olds stay safer online.

Be the First Filter has been enabled through a partnership between NSPCC Jersey, Safeguarding Partnership Jersey and local organisations. Our thanks to the Soroptimists International Jersey for the generous support to help the development and creation of our parent resources.

Every small check-in, every question, every moment of curiosity helps build your child’s confidence to make safer choices online.

You don’t need to be a tech expert — just present, supportive, and ready to talk.

Find more free guidance and resources here: nspcc.co/FirstFilter

If you need further support, you can contact The Children and Families Hub directly childrenandfamilieshub@gov.je or 01534 519000
