We started off with a whole school evacuation to St Lawrence school where we heard from WW2 evacuee Jean McLaughlin, who told the children about her experiences as a child evacuee and what it was like coming back to Jersey after the war.

In the afternoon, Year 5 and Year 6 went to the Art Centre to watch the dress rehearsal for St Mary’s Primary School’s performance of ‘Make Do and Mend’.
On Wednesday 7th May, Years 3, 4 and 5 took part in a special music workshop with writer and narrator Sarah Atter, who focused her workshop around the theme ‘Liberation and Freedom’ to mark Liberation Day.
On Thursday 8th May we held our Liberation 80 celebration, which included:
A special whole school assembly during which the children were able to listen to two voice recordings from the Jersey Archive, featuring former Deputy Head Teacher Mrs. M.R. Ward, who recounted the invasion of the island and a recording by Mrs. Betty Remon, who was 10 years old during the occupation and will share her experience of attending school at that time.
In the morning, we had a variety of military vehicles displayed in the playground thanks to the Jersey Military Vehicle Club.

Year 5 and 6 learnt to do the Lindy Hop.
We had a whole school picnic lunch on the top field followed by ice cream and Liberation Day themed cupcakes accompanied by 1940s music played by staff from the Jersey Music Service.
The children also got to play 1940s-style games and Sonny gave a magnificent performance with one of his band members from The Band of the Island of Jersey.
