Hot Weather

With temperatures forecast to reach 31°C on Sunday and 33°C on Monday, and with the Met Office advising these could rise further, we would like to remind you of the following points to help us to keep your children cool at school.

Please ensure your child comes to school with:

• their water bottle 
• sun cream applied before school
• their named Bel Royal school cap, which was kindly gifted by Miss Hammond earlier this year.

We are planning that school will be open as usual, and we will adapt our curriculum to ensure the least impact of the heat on the children. Should there be any changes to opening times or the end of the day, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Please note that there will be no school-run after-school clubs on Monday or Tuesday due to the temperatures and lack of shade on our school field.

For any parents who have concerns about their child's wellbeing and health in this heat, please do get in touch with Miss Hammond or your child's class teacher in order for us to approve the absence as an exceptional circumstance.

Whole School walk Friday 26th June

We are really looking forward to our Whole School Sponsored Walk on Friday 26th June, raising funds to support Autism Jersey and to develop our outdoor play and sensory spaces at Bel Royal.  

As this is a whole-school community event, we’d love for family members to join us and walk alongside their children, whether you’re able to stay for the whole day, walk part of the route, or join us for lunch on the beach. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you’re able to join us. 

Departure Times from School: 

• 9:00 – 9:15am – Year 5 & 6 – Walking to Corbière, stopping for a break and snack before returning. 

• 9:15 – 9:30am – Year 2, 3 & 4 – Walking to Elephant Park, then returning to the beach. 

• 9:30 – 9:45am – Year 1 – Walking to St Aubin, stopping for a break and snack before returning. 

• 10:00am – Nursery & Reception – Aiming to reach St Aubin but may stop at La Haule depending on how the children are doing. 

All classes will return to Bel Royal Slip (the beach near The Kiosk) between 12:30pm and 1:00pm, where we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch followed by fun beach games from 1:00–2:00pm, before heading back to school. 

Key Info: 

• There will be no hot lunches on this day. If you’ve ordered one, a credit will be issued. 

• Children will be provided with water refills and fruit snacks at checkpoints— no additional snacks are needed. 

• Please make sure your child brings: 

• A packed lunch in a named lunchbox 

• A named water bottle 

• Long-lasting sun cream applied at home 

• A sun hat 

• This will be a non-uniform day – children can wear comfy clothes suitable for walking. Bright summer colours are encouraged! 

We’ll be collecting forms and donations until Monday 29th June. If you need a printed sponsorship form, printouts are available at the school office. 

You will also be able to pay via ParentPay from today until Monday 29th June, if you wish to make a donation.

We are thrilled to announce that our Parent Teacher Community Group has been working extremely hard behind the scenes to make this year's Summer Fayre a great success, but we need your help with the following:

• Bottle Stall – our PTCG will once again be running our very popular bottle stall. If you have any of the following, could you please drop them to the school office:

Back To School Bonus 2026

Applications now open

To support Islanders with the cost-of-living pressures, the Government of Jersey is providing financial support to help families with the cost of preparing children for the new school year in September 2026.

The payment is intended to help with expenses such as uniforms, shoes, stationery and other back to school essentials.

You may be eligible if:

• Your child is in Reception to Year 11

• Your child attends school in Jersey

• Your household income is £75,000 or below (based on 2025 income)

Eligible families will receive:

• £100 for each primary school child

• £150 for each secondary school child

Key dates:

• Applications open: Monday 15 June 2026

• Applications close: Friday 31 July 2026

Families currently receiving Income Support do not need to apply.

Payment will be made automatically.

Families who are not receiving Income Support and may be eligible can apply online now.

Payments will be issued as a single lump sum in August, in advance of the new school term.

Around 50 exhibitors will take part in the celebration of Jersey Children's Day on Sunday 12 July 2026 at Howard Davis Park.

This much loved, free and fun family event, organised by the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, is dedicated to recognising and celebrating the Island's children and young people, while promoting their wellbeing and rights.

Each year thousands of families attend, supported by hundreds of volunteers from charities and community groups who help deliver a vibrant programme of engaging activities throughout the day.

Jersey Children's Day was established following a recommendation from a Citizen's Panel in response to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, and it continues to grow as a key fixture in the Island's community calendar.

Visitors can look forward to a packed programme featuring live bands and entertainment on stage, alongside a wide range of free activities including bouncy castles, zorbs, hoops and glitter sessions, children's yoga, face painting, a photobooth, Jersey Sport activities, Nerf games and water fights, plus plenty of giveaways throughout the day. The popular Jersey Showman will also return. 

The exhibitors will also include charities, public services, activity providers and food and drink vendors offering discounts on the day. Together, they will provide information, support and interactive experiences for children and families.

Family Day: "Victorian Seaside” at Elizabeth Castle

Saturday 4th July, 10am - 4pm

'Step back in time for a Victorian seaside-themed ‘Family Day’ at Elizabeth Castle! This event is open to everyone and promises to be a day of coastal fun.

Enjoy the bandstand buzz, ride the Victorian carousel and join in with seaside crafts, sand and water trays, puppet shows, and a playful ball pool with vintage bathing suits. Join our ‘Victorian’ Geopark Guides for a rock pool s’traû (stroll) and pebble exploration at the Secret Beach, then try candyfloss and classic Victorian games, and explore the Military Hospital, brought to life by our costumed characters. All children must be accompanied by a helpful adult.
