PE and Sport: Highlights of the Year
What a fantastic year it has been for PE and school sport! Throughout the year, pupils have embraced opportunities to be active, develop new skills, and represent the school with pride. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship shown by all of our children.
One of the highlights of the year was taking part in the Cross Country events in October and March. We were particularly proud that every child in Years 5 and 6 participated, demonstrating resilience and perseverance as they tackled the challenging courses. The children supported one another brilliantly and represented the school exceptionally well. A special 'congratulations' goes to Maxim in Year 5, who achieved an outstanding second-place finish, a fantastic accomplishment in a highly competitive field.
Football has continued to be a major success across the school. Children from Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 had the opportunity to represent the school in a series of football tournaments held at Springfield. Both boys' and girls' teams competed throughout the year, giving many pupils the chance to experience competitive sport and proudly wear the school colours. Their teamwork, commitment, and positive attitudes were a credit to the school.
This year we have also developed a fantastic relationship with the Jersey Bulls Community Coaching Team. We have been fortunate to welcome Michael into school, where he has delivered fun and engaging football sessions as part of PE lessons for every year group. In addition, Michael has run a popular lunchtime football club, providing even more opportunities for children to develop their skills and enjoyment of the game.
A particularly memorable experience for our Year 4 pupils was the opportunity to be mascots for the Jersey Bulls Football Team. The children had an unforgettable day, walking out with the players and enjoying the excitement of match day. They also had the chance to play mini-matches on the pitch at half-time, creating memories that will last for years to come.
Another wonderful opportunity this year was the Year 3 Tennis Competition. Working in partnership with Scott from Caesarean Tennis Club, our Year 3 pupils benefited from a half-term of tennis coaching during their PE lessons. The children developed their skills, confidence and understanding of the game before Scott selected two teams to represent Bel Royal School in a Year 3 tennis competition against other local schools. The pupils played with great determination and sportsmanship, making us incredibly proud with their effort, teamwork and positive attitude throughout the event. It was fantastic to see the progress they had made in such a short period of time and the enthusiasm they showed when competing against children from other schools.
Most recently, we have enjoyed spending long, sunny afternoons on the cricket field, both on the school field and at St George's School, with our school cricket team. The children have shown tremendous enthusiasm, skill and sportsmanship throughout the cricket season. I have been particularly impressed by the high standard of cricket on display this year, with pupils demonstrating excellent batting, bowling and fielding skills, as well as a growing understanding of the game. It has been wonderful to see the confidence and teamwork of our players develop with every match.
As we head into the summer holidays, we would like to encourage families to take advantage of the fantastic free taster sessions available through Jersey Sport. A wide range of sports and activities are on offer throughout the holidays, providing children with a great opportunity to stay active, try something new and develop their sporting interests.
