๐ŸŒŸ Welcome Back to the New School Year ๐ŸŒŸ

Dear parents and carers,

I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable summer break and are looking forward, as I am, to the new term ahead.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all back and to welcome new staff, pupils, and families joining our school community โ€“ we are delighted to have you with us.

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› As always, we begin the term by reaffirming our Core Values: Include โ€ข Believe โ€ข Achieve. These values remain at the heart of everything we do, guiding our learning, relationships, and aspirations for every child.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Exciting Developments Over the Summer

Over the holidays, weโ€™ve made some exciting improvements to our school environment:

  • A brand-new Food Technology Room has been completed. This will be a fantastic resource for developing essential life skills and supporting learning across food, health, and science.

  • Landscaping and accessibility improvements have been made to create a safe and welcoming outdoor space for our newly located Additional Resource Provision, including the installation of a new ramp.

A huge thank you to Mr Jones, who worked tirelessly throughout the holidays to help coordinate work and ensured that our school is all clean, safe and ready for the start of term.

๐Ÿš— Drop-Off and Pick-Up Arrangements

As returning families will know, we continue to work hard to ensure a safe, efficient, and stress-free drop-off and pick-up experience. However, due to the nature of traffic and the busyness of the surrounding area, this remains a challenge. I am continuing to work closely with the Government of Jersey and the parish to explore ways to improve this, and I strongly encourage families to consider active, car-free travel wherever possible to help reduce congestion.

Please take note of the following arrangements and pick up points for each year group this term:

Morning Drop-Off (8:30โ€“8:45am)

  • We will continue with our one-way circuit for drop-off at the front of school.

  • Only Nursery and Reception families may park in the playground during this time to support children who may need assistance entering school.

  • The disabled drop-off area outside the main entrance is strictly for families with permits to ensure safe access for children who require additional support.

End-of-Day Pick-Up Times

  • Nursery: 2:30pm

Front of school

Children will wait at the Nursery entrance with staff. Please leave promptly to avoid overlapping with Reception families.

  • Reception: 2:45pm

Front of school

Staff will bring children to you or your car. Please leave promptly before the older year groups finish.

  • Years 1, 2, and 3: 3:00pm

Year 1 & 3: Front of school

Year 2: Top playground

  • Years 4, 5, and 6: 3:15pm

Year 4: Front of school

Year 5 & 6: Top playground

๐Ÿ“š Communication and Key Dates

WhatsApp

In the past, parents were encouraged to use WhatsApp groups as a way to share information. While these groups were set up with good intentions, we now understand that they bring challenges we cannot easily manage as a school. WhatsApp groups are not monitored, which means that information shared there may be inaccurate, inconsistent, or sometimes even exclude families who are not part of the group. School parent representatives have also been required to take on significant extra responsibility for information sharing on behalf of others. There are also data protection concerns, as personal contact details are visible to everyone in the group.

To make sure all families receive the same clear, accurate and secure information, we ask that parents take responsibility for their own child by keeping up-to-date and in touch with school using the official school channels.

- Seesaw for class updates, messages and sharing of childrenโ€™s learning.

- Email, newsletters and website for whole-school information and notices.

- The school office for urgent enquiries, absences or matters needing a direct response.

- A phone call or face-to-face meeting/quick catch-up.

We know many of you have found WhatsApp groups useful in the past, and we are grateful for the way parents have supported each other. This change is about making sure that our communication remains safe, inclusive, and consistent for everyone.

Communication between school and home is key to ensuring our children succeed. I encourage you to stay engaged with your childโ€™s education through Seesaw, and please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

You will receive a message from your childโ€™s new class teacher, along with information about curriculum focus and key dates for the term. These, along with other important updates, can be found on our school website.

Teachers have been busy planning, preparing and organising enabling learning environments ready for their new class. It is lovely to see many of the children responding to their teachers' welcome messages on Seesaw this week.

โœˆ๏ธ INSET Day Reminder

Please note that school will be closed on Thursday 11th September for an INSET day in line with the Jersey International Air Display.

"Bel Royalties"

The "Bel Royalties" will be supporting the "Jersey Dragon Boat Festival 2025" on Saturday 13th September 2025, to raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care, a charity that has supported our community in many ways. If you are able to donate to this worthy cause, please follow the link below.

Pre-Loved Uniform (and some new items)

We have quite a few uniform items that have been washed and are ready to reuse. We will leave the rails at our main entrance over the first week or two, so please come and have a look โ€“ items are free to help yourselves to. If anyone has uniform items that they have grown out of, and you are willing to donate, please wash and add them to our rails for others to benefit from.

We are anticipating a fantastic year ahead, full of learning, growth, and achievement. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Warm regards,
Claire Hammond
