When I read great literature, great drama, speeches, or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language.
James Earl Jones
Our English curriculum aims to inspire and empower each unique child to develop the literacy skills needed for them to thrive. Children gaining and using spoken language and written English is essential in not only them accessing the curriculum but also having a profound effect on a child’s academic and social journey; ultimately enriching their lives beyond school. At Bel Royal, a love of reading and writing is promoted throughout a child’s journey using high quality texts that will inspire and empower them to access information independently and communicate in oral and written form.
In our ARP, we develop emerging literacy skills throughout the day through highly motivating continuous provision that encourages communication and engagement. We also have a daily shared story, phonics, and singing session, as well as individual, adult-supported, English-focused learning sessions.
