The children in Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a visit from Victoria Li, who came to talk to them about Chinese New Year and teach them how to make Chinese Dumplings.
During the session, Victoria explained to the children that each year is named after one of twelve animals and that this year is the year of the Horse.
The children learnt about traditional Chinese New Year decorations, such as lanterns, tangerines, dragons and symbols of good fortune.
Victoria told the children how people often celebrate the start of the New Year by performing a dragon dance and taught them how to say 'Happy New Year' in Mandarin.
The children were introduced to three ingredients that are used in the dumplings, which they were able to touch, smell and try to identify.
Victoria taught the children how to roll out the dough into circles, add the dumpling filling and carefully pinch the edges to form their own dumplings. After they were cooked, the children enjoyed tasting their Chinese dumplings, which were delicious.
