We are delighted to share that our children in Year 4 and Year 6 have been invited to take part in this year's Art in the Arches project by Art House Jersey.
The children enjoyed an in-house session with artist and educator Jacqui Rutter, Nicole Sheppard and Mrs Arthur.
The children will be painting their murals in the Arches next week, and we can't wait to share their completed work. In the meantime, here is a small sneak peek of what the children have been working on.

Our class had an art day with Mrs Rutter and this is what we thought about it:
It was amazing because we learnt new techniques like dry brush and about relative size, which is called perspective. That means the background will be further away and the foreground will be closer.
It was brilliant because we learnt what we would be doing at the murals, the bee and the hexagons for the honeycomb and the flowers for the garden.

We were so excited to take part in a fantastic art workshop with Mrs Rutter and Mrs Arthur yesterday (Thursday 4th June). Throughout the day, we designed and made colourful and vibrant beach huts. In a few weeks, we will be using these ideas, skills and designs to complete the 'Art In The Arches' project near the Radisson Hotel.
Charlie: I loved painting, designing and making the huts. My highlight was seeing the houses altogether at the end. They were so vibrant, and we had to think carefully about where each house should go, thinking about the composition of the whole piece. We had to make sure it was appealing to look at.
Nyla: I really had fun with Mrs Rutter. She was funny and interesting and had a great personality. Her instructions were really clear. My highlight was being given the key to open the door. It was so fun. I learnt about hot and cold colours and how to mix them.
We learnt different colour mixing techniques and learnt how to use masking tape to create clean lines and edges. It was so satisfying to peel off!
We are so proud of the work created and can't wait for the big day to share our designs with all of Jersey!
Thank you to Mrs Arthur, Mrs Rutter and Nicole Sheppard for helping us have such a great day and learning so many new things.
Having been fortunate enough to be part of Art House Jersey's Art in the Arches project 2025, I was delighted when project and art curator Jacque Rutter invited Bel Royal School to participate in the event this year.
Year 4 and Year 6 will complete two full days of art. Firstly, in the classroom learing and practising the skills necessary to paint a mural. Followed by a full day at the harbour actually painting their wonderful creations.
The excitement and pleasure the children took from their first workshop was evident in their conversations and faces throughout the day.
Jacque Rutter was very impressed not only with our children's behaviour, engagement and art skills, but their dedication and pride in the work.
We are all buzzing (pun intended) with anticipation for our next day down at the harbour at the end of June.
