Bel Royal Primary School

Liberation 80

8th May was a special day at Bel Royal School, ending our week of celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey.

We heard first-hand experiences of living in and being evacuated from the island during the occupation, had a whole school evacuation to St Lawrence School, took part in drama workshops led by Jersey Arts Centre, took part in the Liberation games sponsored by Butterfield who donated Liberation 80 T-shirts, watched a wonderful production by St Mary’s School and learnt important information about the significance of this event for the people of our islands.

Thank you to Jersey Music Service, Jersey Military Vehicle Club, Mr Burton for his drone footage, Jersey Lindy Hop, Malcolm (Malli) and Sonny from the Band of the Island of Jersey, the Bailiff for every child’s commemorative badge, the kind donation from St Lawrence Parish which funded all our ice cream, all our amazing staff and pupils and a huge thank you to Mrs Laurent who treated the whole school to a Liberation cupcake for her birthday from Victoria Sponge. 🇯🇪
