Friends of Africa visit Bel Royal School

Friends of Africa performance

On Tuesday 19th May, we welcomed the charity, Friends of Africa, into our assembly as part of African culture awareness week. The assembly was a celebration designed to promote inclusion, diversity, cultural appreciation, and a greater sense of belonging for all children.

We were treated to a performance by Prince Joel Nyoni and Dr Busi Mhlanga, who are a dynamic duo (known as The Collective and Friends) who brought authentic African experiences through storytelling, music, and live performance.

Through engaging interaction, song, and rhythm, they introduced children to African culture, traditions, and the meaning behind songs sung for different occasions such as celebrations, community gatherings and storytelling.

The children were encouraged to participate through singing, movement, call-and-response activities, and creative expression. Live piano accompaniment adds a unique musical element, helping children connect with African melodies, harmonies, and rhythms in an exciting and accessible way.

Together, Busi and Prince Joel created a vibrant cultural experience that inspired our Bel Royal students to have an appreciation for African heritage through music and storytelling.

What a way to start a Tuesday!
